The entry list for the ‘Vospers Tour of Cornwall in support of Mount Edgcumbe Hospice’, which is based at Pentewan Sands Holiday Park in St Austell and takes place on 7/8th April, is headed by the 2005 event winner DAVE APPLEBY (Tiverton) in a Subaru Impreza S8. Meanwhile, his son JAMES will be at the wheel of the last car in the National ‘B’ Rally which follows the main event for much of the Saturday.

As the second round of the Prima Motorsport MSA National Asphalt Rally Championship, the Vospers Tour of Cornwall brings the cream of the UK’s ‘sealed surface’ drivers to the south-west and, joining Appleby, the entry is littered with former winners. The Subaru Impreza WRC of STEVE FLECK (Newbury) was victorious in 2004, while DAVID KYNASTON (Exeter) triumphed in his Audi A3 Quattro twelve months earlier.

TONY DAVIES (Aspley Guise) and JOHN PRICE (Hereford) have also held the winners’ trophy in the past but, such is the quality of the opposition that there are any number of new names who could join them this time.

Former National Rally Champion MARCUS DODD (Poole) will be making his debut in Cornwall in his Hyundai Accent WRC, while NIK ELSMORE (Coleford) has enlisted the help of co-driver NIGEL GARDNER (New Tredegar), who won the 2004 Tour of Cornwall partnering Steve Fleck, for his first foray on to the stages.

Local interest is upheld by husband-and-wife crew STEVE & YVONNE FURZELAND (Plymouth) who are seeded in the Top Ten in their Subaru Impreza WRC. They finished 7th in 2005, just a couple of minutes behind the leaders, and will be looking to improve on that this time.
