New sponsor for the Tour of Mull
The tranquil Isle of Mull just off the west coast of Scotland will echo to the sound of rally cars once again in October for the annual Tour of Mull Rally. The event, renowned as one of the best tarmac rallies in the world will take place over the weekend of October 14th-16th and the organisers are pleased to announce a new title sponsor.
Tunnocks, the famous Glasgow based biscuit company, have signed a new deal with the 2300 Club, the driving force behind the event. Club chairman Neil Molyneux remarked, “We are very pleased to have Tunnocks as our new title sponsor. They have been involved in the rally, at some level, for many years so it is great to have someone that knows the event and shares the committee’s enthusiasm for it. Philips sponsored the rally for fourteen years and helped it go from strength to strength, which I'm sure Tunnocks will also do.”
The event will follow the same format to previous years with the rally starting from Tobermory on the Friday evening. Seven stages will run through darkness into the small hours of the Saturday morning totalling fifty stage miles. Section two of the rally begins on Saturday at noon and will incorporate just over forty-seven stage miles over seven stages. Crews will have a short break before starting section three at 9pm on Saturday evening. A total of five stages will make up the remainder of the event, which will finish back in Tobermory at approximately 2am.
1969 saw the inception of the Tour of Mull and over the past thirty-seven years it has evolved into the rally we have today. There are many factors that make this event totally unique in the motorsport world including the friendly welcome bestowed on everyone by the locals, the dramatic landscape of the island and the format of the event. With the stages taking place amid some of the most beautiful scenery in the British Isles, the Tour of Mull has become a favourite amongst competitors, marshals and spectators alike. Many travel to the island every year to experience the unique event that the Tour of Mull has become.
Regulations for the event will be available from August 1st.
