With backing from Tom Hogan Motors and Garyarron Homes, Gareth, along with co-driver Paul Nagle will contest both the Irish Tarmac Championship and the Irish National Forestry Championship. Using the same 1998 spec Toyota Corolla WRC that they used to such good effect in Galway the team will be run by Gerry McGarrity Motorsport who have looked after Gareth for the last number of years.
This will be the first time that Gareth has competed regularly in a WRC machine and most of the events will be new to him as well. Undaunted by this Gareth sees it as a great opportunity especially after the Galway result. “I know there is a lot more to come from me and the car, but it is all a learning curve for me to gain more experience.” Gareth has only previously contested the Donegal and Ulster rallies in his Peugeot 206. “I have been following the Tarmac Championship all my life and it will be great to have a go at it.”
Speaking of the Forestry Championship, “I am really looking forward to the forestry championship as it will give me a great opportunity to drive a WRC on gravel and gain valuable experience.”
Technical backing for the project will come from Kumho Tyres and Shell Oils with further support coming from Allsport Logistics, Colm McEvoy Auctioneers and irishrallycalendar.com.
