In Saturday’s championship event, he was a massive 5.23s clear of runner up Peter Dwyer’s Ford engined Delta, with John Mahon’s Sheane holding off the Formula Opel Reynard of former champion Andy Kittle, making a welcome return to the hills. Roche went quicker still on Sunday, breaking the two year old record even though it wasn’t a championship qualifier, with Dwyer and Mahon again next in line.

Long time Escort pilot David James has gone single seater this year, and he improved to fourth in his Jedi, just beating Kittle.
