2005 has seen further expansion of the RPM television programme, bringing Irish motorsport to more viewers worldwide. As ever the RPM series features the Pirelli Irish Tarmac Rally Championship, but also showcase events such as the Lurgan Park Rally, the Dogleap Stages Rally, and new for this year the Tour Brittania Historic, and Dundrod TT commemoration events, as well as some of the top racing action from Mondello Park.
RPM is now in it’s fourteenth year on Ulster Television, and this years series was fittingly kicked off with a programme about Ireland’s first World Rally Champion- Niall McShea. This year we will be following young Kris Meeke’s fortunes in the Junior World Rally Championship, Kris having already won the first round in Monte Carlo.
For 2005 however viewers will many chances to catch the best of Irish Motorsport on RPM. RPM is being shown on Sky Sports- “Rally Fever” programming, and on Chris Courteyn’s European rally programmes, but excitingly new for 2005 is it’s appearance on Motors TV and RTE. It is all giving our European counterparts a chance to see just how competitive and entertaining the local scene has become.
It is the first time that RPM has been shown on Motors TV, a channel dedicated to motoring. Motors TV will be broadcasting all eight rounds of the Pirelli Irish Tarmac Championship, and also the 50th anniversary Dundrod TT programme. Motors TV reaches a staggering 13 million 220,000 people, in countries such as Germany, France, Portugal, Spain, Norway, Holland, Turkey and Bulgaria.
But it’s not only the foreign fields that RPM will be beamed into as “RPM on RTE” starts it’s series on June 1st. The “RPM on RTE” package will feature twenty-four programmes on it’s Wednesday night slot, which features the Irish Tarmac Championship, Ganly Waters Irish Classic Retro, Mondello Motor Racing, the Dundrod TT and the Tour Brittania.
RPM restarts after it’s three week break on the 16th June with a programme on the Ganly Walters Irish Classic Retro Trial, followed by two programmes on the Shell Donegal International Rally, round four of the Irish Tarmac Championship.
