In a close finish, Trevor Farrell and Noel Hall brought their Proton home to a one mark win in Saturday night’s Monaghan Navigation Trial out of Tyholland, just getting the better of Mickey Tynan and Garreth Beagan in their Vectra.

National Championship leaders Andy Mackarel and Liam Higgins in another Vectra took third place despite a wrong approach to TP14, which caused problems for most of the entry thanks to a closed gate on the shortest route. Some elected to skip the point, some went the long way around, but only twelve of the 30 entries managed to get there.
Last season’s champion navigator Conor Maguire went driving this time, taking fourth overall with Stephen Hagan, while Fintan Larmer and Sean McCaffrey took the semi-experts class, with Ashley McAdoo and Adam Murray once again top novices.
Michael Conlon/Emmet Sherry were best of the Beginners.
