Round 2 - 2004-2005 Irish 205 Challenge

Feargal Driver from Wicklow was the first and only retirement of the day with a blown engine on the practice run.

The opening timed run proved the most difficult for most of the drivers as they adjusted to the technique of rallying on a track with so much space. Seamus O’Grady took the fastest time on the first run, with Tommie Rafferty and James Stafford in 2nd and 3rd place.

The fastest time on run two was over a second quicker than that of the first run, this time set by Graeme Colfer, winner of round two of the championship. Donegal’s Adrian McElhinney was 2nd on this run with James Stafford posting another 3rd fastest time.

The third and final run of the day pushed a lot of the drivers to their limit, trying to get those all important split seconds to snatch the win. It was Adrian McElhinney in his JC Engineering Peugeot 205 that set fastest time on the final run and with that took the win and the all important twenty championship points.

The event was so closely fought the just 1-second separated the top three competitors. New competitor to the challenge James Stafford took 2nd place with Graeme Colfer just half a second behind him in 3rd place. Adrian McBride and Tommie Rafferty rounded off the top five.

The championship is now lead by Graeme Colfer on 47 points, Adrian McBride is in 2nd place on 40 points with Seamus O’Grady just behind him on 38 points.

The next round is the Sligo Restricted Single Stage on 30th January 2004.
