In a repeat of the performance which won them the Drumlin in early October, Monaghan’s major navigation event of the year, Arthur Kierans and Ashley McAdoo brought their Vectra to top place in the club championship round which started at Rally School Ireland near Scotstown on Saturday night.

After a 75 mile route, they were four marks clear of a tie for runner up position, which was decided in favour of Trevor Farrell and Noel Hall in the familiar Proton, over the Carina of Laurence Sherry and the younger Hall brother, Gary. Semi-expert winners Pat Higgins and Ciaran Coyle were fourth overall in a Galant, with the Carina of top novices Aidan Friel and Conor Harvey two places farther back. Damien and Stephen Hagan and former National champions Andy Mackarel/Liam Higgins both had problems at time point 15, which cost them 20m each, leaving them in fifth and seventh places.
