Wilson claims the spoils

Glenn and co-driver Nigel Wilson also won the award for best Northern Irish crew and were the first two-wheel-drive finishers home.

The rally was Glenn’s first championship event in his two-litre, two-wheel-drive Formula Two Escort, which used to belong to Irish legend Kenny McKinstry. Despite it having more power than the 26-year-old’s last car, a Peugeot 106, Glenn was at home in the car straight away, as he powered to an impressive finish.

Glenn’s main rival for the Formula Two class win was English Tarmac hotshot Guy Woodcock. Despite suffering from power steering problems on both days of the rally, Glenn fought hard to keep him at bay throughout the gruelling event, claiming the class win by an 11-second margin.

He is now confident he can repeat the result on the next round of the Pirelli-backed series, the Circuit of Ireland on April 9-12.

“Having someone of Guy’s calibre to fight against was brilliant, and to stay ahead of him even when we had problems is really encouraging,” said Glenn.

“This sets us up really well for the next rally, and if everything runs right on the car, I don’t see why we can’t be going for a top ten overall result this time.”
