TOP MOTORSPORT POSITION FOR JOHN NAYLOR

John Naylor, from Carnew, Co. Wicklow, has been elected chairman of Motorsport Ireland, the governing body for Motorsport in Ireland. He succeeds Cecil Sparks in this position as head of the Motor Sport Commission.

Naylor, 41, is married, with two children, and has previously been chairman of Motorsport Ireland’s Technical Committee for three years. He also chaired the Hillclimb and Sprint Committee in 2003, and has been chairman of Wexford Motor Club for the past four years.

John has been competing in motor sport since the early 1980s and has enjoyed much success in Hillclimbs and Sprints, winning his class in last year’s National Championship. He has also been active as a scrutineer at many types of event.

He succeeds Cecil Sparks who has been chairman of Motorsport Ireland since 1999. During that period he oversaw the successful implementation of “Motorsport 2000”, the strategic plan for the development of Irish motor sport.
