Following the excitement of the Wexford Hillclimbs the event in Athea is sure to be an interesting one. Michael B. Roche in the Delta will be hoping to extend his championship lead further. He will be challenged closely by Karl Cleary in his powerful Metro 6R4 and John McNamara in the Coogar.

Not to be ruled out after his victories on home ground in Wexford and at the Gordon Bennett Sprint is Patrick Roche in the Honda powered OMS. The local interest will include Paul O'Connell from Crecora who is hoping to challenge for class honours in his Delta. Denis Hogan Jr from Adare makes a welcome return to the championship. Many local rally drivers including, Shane Mangan, Stephan Carway, Martin O'Connell, Mike Doody and Paul Purtill, to name but a few, will be out to challenge the regular hillclimb competitors. In class one of the Dunlop Hillclimb Championship Katie Hogan from Adare will be hoping to continue her climb up the points board. James Doherty in the Starlet is tipped to take class two honours. Simon McKinley in the MK2 Escort, will battle it out with David James in a MK2 and Seamus Morris in the Darrian T90 for a class three win. Class four leader Frank Nuthall will be hoping to extend his lead this weekend but he will be challenged by Michael Doyle and John Kingston in Lotus Elans. John Naylor will be hoping to put the engine trouble he had in Wexford behind him and to try and put another class five win on the board in his Formula Ford. Class six will see Patrick Roche and Darryl Ramsay in similar OMS cars battle it out with Paul O'Connell, John Mahon and Andrew Herman . Class seven will see the big guns of Michael A. Roche, Michael B. Roche, John McNamara and Karl Cleary battle it out for class and overall honours.

The racing on both days begins at 11.30 and a fast and exciting weekend is almost assured.
