Ford Ka Championship - Round 3 - Carlow Stages Rally - 11 May 03

Chadwick in the Autopoint Ford Ka stamped his authority on the event from the very first stage of the day, to set the pace; recording fastest KA Stage time and move into an early 12 second lead. Having caught all the other crews napping Chadwick continued to set fastest stage time on stages 2 and 4 to move into a 22 second lead at the half way mark. Gordon Coleman in the J.G Kelly Supplies Ford KA having started slowly moved up a gear and into second position overall and began to challenge Chadwick for the lead. Walter Walshe in the Duds & Suds Ford KA again having started slowly moved up to third from fourth at the half way mark.

For the second loop of 4 stages the clouds began to appear and with it came a down pour, some crews were caught out on slicks but it was business as usual at the top of the leaderboard with Chadwick recording fastest KA time on stages 5 & 6 to consolidate his lead. However Gordon Coleman began to bring the fight to Chadwick and recorded fastest KA time on stage 8 to reduce Chadwick?s lead to forty seconds. In a desperate do or die mission Coleman attacked on the last stage but broke a driveshaft halfway through he stage ending his hopes, allowing Chadwick to cruise home to his second victory of the season. After having a steady run Walter Walshe settled for second position and scored valuable Championship points. Emily O?Mahony the revelation of the season finished in third position, her second successive podium finish to move into second position overall in the Championship after three rounds.
