With Bryan Sharkey navigating on the Pirelli Gateshead Rally in Newcastle, Northern England, Gareth competed in the highly-competitive Peugeot 206 Cup with 33 starters. The talented 21-year old drove a faultless rally, taking seventh fastest time on the fifth stage.

Gareth is the third member of the McHale family rallying this year, his older brother Aaron competing in selected rounds of the Tarmac and National Rally Championships.

McHale's Peugeot 206 is prepared by Ulsterman Gerry McGarrity and is sponsored by McEvoy Auctioneers and Gary Aron Homes Ltd.

The series is run alongside a majority of the British Rally Championship rounds, tackling classic stages from England to Wales and Scotland to Ireland. The second round of the Total Peugeot 206 Cup takes place in Wrexham for the Welsh Rally, a gravel event on May 17/19.
