MAYO SUCCESS AT MIDLANDS RALLY

Mayo & District Motorsport Club brought home some silverware from Sunday's Midland Single Stage Rally.

Rory O'Connor (Ballyhaunis) finished joint 3rd overall and 1st in Class 8 in a Ford Escort WRC, while Sean McHugh from Bekan with John Rowland were 18th and 2nd in Class 4 in their McCluskey Engineering backed Subaru Impreza.

39th overall, over the 40 stage miles held around Boyle, County Roscommon, were Gerry and Karen Kelly (Roscommon). Just outside the Top 50 were Fiachra Moran / Thomas Jordan (Belcarra) and Mathew Murphy / Rory Murphy (Shrule) while Keith McFadden and Keith Melley recorded 64th and took 3rd in Class 9.

130 competitors took part in this event which used the old Circuit of Ireland route that once paid homage to such rally greats as Vatanen, Arikkala and Jimmy McRae to name a few.
