This is the second consecutive year that a Ford KA has won the South East Stages Championship, as James Travers (Kilkenny) the 2000 Ford Ireland KA Rally Champion also secured the 2000 South East Stages Crown. John in the Barry Pender Motors Ford KA has the class of the 2001 field notching up five victories out of the last seven round of the 2001 Ford Ireland KA Challenge. John's undoubted speed and skill is also underlined as he is one of the three finalists for the prestigious Motorsport Ireland "Billy Coleman Award" .
"I knew that I had to win here today to secure the South East Stages Championship. The stage was treacherous, very slippery, its was like driving on ice in some parts. A lot of people slid off but we kept it together to get the result that I wanted. Having won the 2001 Ford Ireland KA Challenge Title and the South East Stages Championship, I am now setting my sights on the "Billy Coleman Award", it would be brilliant to get all three" said John.
John dominated the Ford KA Class at Wexford Single Stage setting all three fastest stage times, his nearest Challenger Gerry Keyes (Limerick) battled hard under the treacherous conditions to secure second position in the event and to move back into second position overall in the 2001 Ford Ireland KA Challenge Title race. Declan Magee (Enniskillen) once again underlined his competitiveness by taking a fine third position.
