106 Cup - Round 4 - Red Dragon Rally - 3 June '00
by Claire Walsh
The Red Dragon Rally in Port Talbot, South Wales was the setting for round 4 of the Peugeot Super 106 Cup. Rory Galligan was hoping to put the disappointment of his last two non finishes behind him and get his championship challenge back on track. However Rory was again plagued with bad luck. Eight miles into the first stage gear linkage problems left the car stuck in 5th gear. Rory continued, having to slip the clutch to get around tight corners and hairpins. Close to the end of the stage the engine cut out, leaving the crew to push the car to the stage finish and into service.

Rory\'s mechanics worked frantically to fix the gear linkage and restart the engine, with both these working it was then discovered that the clutch had failed completely. A very disappointing result after four weeks of hard work repairing the car following an Rory\'s accident on the Pirelli Rally.

However it was not a bad day for all the Irish. Seamus Donnelly and new co-driver Bob Rose dominated the event. After setting the fastest time on stage 1 Seamus battled to pass wild horses on stage 2. Putting this behind him Seamus drove a terrific rally and took the honours ahead of David Nutt and Ryan Champion.

Round 5 is the Jim Clark Rally in July.
