O'Donovan to race Eklunds Saab at the Superprix

It was announced today that London based Limerick Rally driver Ollie O Donovan will drive the Saab 9-3 Aero Sport 4x4 Supercar at the forthcoming Shannon Holdings Rallycross Superprix at Croft on October 28/29. Ollie who is better known for his Rallying in a McKinstry run Subaru WRC has competed in the last few rounds of the British Championship and will sponsor the event through his company Shannon Holdings.

Brothers Eugene and Charlie Donnelly Make Irish Rallying History

Ennis, Co. Clare was the scene where a major piece of Irish Motorsport history was written on the 16th September as Charlie Donnelly sealed the Irish National Rally Championship by finishing second on the Clare Stages Rally. It was a win that came just two weeks after his brother Eugene sealed the Irish Tarmac Championship on the Ulster International Rally in the same Toyota Corolla WRC.

The London Irish Motor Club’s official launch takes place this weekend (July 15th) and things are shaping up for one of the motorsport social occasions of the year. The club, only in existence since last March has gone from strength to strength – membership now stands at 80 members and growing. The function has attracted a who’s who of Irish and British motorsport heroes. From the world of rallying, four former Irish champions, Austin MacHale, Eugene Donnelly, Andrew Nesbitt and Kenny McKinstry, former British champion Mark Higgins and well-known rear-wheel drive exponent Phil Collins have all confirmed their attendance at this prestigious event. Add in stars from bygone eras like Billy Coleman Russell Brookes, Paddy Hopkirk and Penti Airikkala and you have quite a line up. But this is just a mere taster of what is in-store.

Galway Motor Club are holding an open night on Wednesday June 21st at 9pm in The Oranmore Lodge Hotel. The night is open to everyone to come along whether you are a club member or not. A number of events are coming up and information will be available on the night, regarding the GMC Sprint on July 2nd in Pallas Karting, Tynagh and also the Galway Summer Stages Rally which takes place on Sunday August 27th. The Summer stages is a counting round of both the Dunlop National Championship 2006 and The Top Part West Coast Championship 2006. The staff of actionphotos.ie will be in attendance with a display of photographs and DVD’s from recent rallies, around the country.

TRANS WORLD EVENTS CONFIRMS CLASSICS FOR PANAMA-SAN FRANCISCO A category for pre-1978 classics has been confirmed for the 28-day Panama-San Francisco rally, to be run in February 2007. Swiss classic enthusiast Gerry Leumann and his wife Helen are the latest to enter, joining Peter Hardsteen in his classic Citroen SM.
