Down's Martin Taggart won the 1999 Lighthouse Single Stage Rally, taking full advantage of dramatic late spins from David James and Jimmy Lambert.

Taggart was third going into the final stage, just three seconds down on leader James, with Lambert best placed to pounce for victory.

After the Gorey driver dramatically spun in the final quarter of the stage, Lambert was set to cap a spectacular 1999 with a win.

But he skidded on the same stretch of the homeward leg, handing an unlikely win to Taggart. James was 2nd overall.

John Tracey retired earlier with a misfire
