by Seamus Counihan

Rory opened his account in the Respa 106 with quickest time amongst the Peugeots on the first stage and 17th overall and also led the way until a trip through a fence on stage seven. He then battled his way back to second, only five seconds behind Mark Fisher at the over night halt. These two had also pulled out a gap of nearly thirty seconds to the next 106 competitors and finished the day in 16th and 18th places respectively.

Yet again Rory was to suffer heartbreak as first and second gears went o n the g stage on Sunday, and he was left to nurse the car home over the remaini ng ten stages. He did this in fine style with seventh in the Peugeots as fourt h and fifth gears were also going. His final position of 29th is the highest f inish for an Irish competitor in Belgium for many a year. Rory's next event wi ll be the Bulldog Rally in England.
