O Donoghue/O Leary collect Southern 4 award
Kevin O Donoghue and navigator Joe O Leary collected their overall winners trophies at the 023 Tiles Southern 4 Rally Championship prizegiving dinner held in the Morans Silver Springs Hotel in Cork on the 5th of January. The awards were a huge affair with no fewer than 470 people sitting down for the awards dinner.
A huge screen on one end of the room showed action clips of the award winners as they came to collect their trophies.

Speaking on behalf of the championship organisers Pat Nolan paid tribute to the late Jim Walsh,or Fr.Jim as he was affectionately known, who passed away a little over a year ago.Jim was one of the founder members of the championship and remained it's driving force until his sad and untimely passing.He also thanked Darren McCarthy and paid particular tribute to Karen J O Sullivan who is the face of the Southern 4 at all the participating rounds.

He went on “ As sponsors go we are very lucky to have someone of the calibre of James O Sullivan of 023 Tiles of Cork and Bandon. 023 Tiles have been sponsoring the series now for 7 years and have already committed to continue on into 2008.As well as being the championship sponsor James takes an active role to help the championship whenever he can and 023 Tiles’ continued support means we have more time to commit to the running of the Southern 4,now one of the most established domestic rally championships in Europe with over 100 crews entering each year.”

Overall winners in 2007 were Kevin O Donoghue/Joe O Leary Second overall driver was Tim McNulty while Helen O Sullivan was second navigator.
Third overall driver was Kevin Kelleher with Mike Clyne third overall navigator.

In the classes Tom Dunne/Christine O Leary (106 GTI) won Class 2
Class 3 winners were Billy Hayes/Pierce Doheny Jnr(Civic Type R)
Class 4 Driver was Mark Nangle (Impreza) while class 4 Navigator was Martin Kelleher.
Class 5 winning driver was Andrew Fanning while the navigator was Anthony Jordan
Class 6 was won by John Quill/Caroline Kearney (Citroen C2 R2)
Class 7 Kieran Marshal/Derry O Mahony (Civic Type R)
Class 8 Driver was Denis Cronin (Impreza WRC) while the navigator was Dermot O Gorman
Class 9 Roland Doherty/PJ O Dowd (Nova)
Class 10 Driver was Stephen Sheehan(Talbot) with the Navigators award going to John Delaney
Class 11 Declan Grogan/Rachel Kennedy (Civic)
Class 12 Gerard O Connell/Ken Carmody (Escort Mk 2)
Class 13 William Buttimer/Aoife McCarthy(Escort Mk2)
Class 14 Conor Cavanagh/James Jordan(Escort Mk 2)
Class 15 Jer O Donovan/Stephen O Donovan (Escort Cosworth)
The Junior class was won by Barry Ryan/Donal Falvey(Escort Mk 2).

In the Historics Class C winners were Liam Sheehan/Mark Doody (Escort Mk1)
Class D went to Martin Sheahan/Gerard Clancy(Escort Mk1)while the overall winners in the Historic section were Todd Falvey/Dan Barry(Porsche 911)

The two wheel drive award went to Ken O Neill/Frank Curtain (Puma S1600) and the 1600 award was won by Daragh O Riordan/Sean McCarthy (Civic)

The 2008 championship opens, as always, with the West Cork Rally in March followed by the Rally of the Lakes,Ravens Rock,Cork 20 International,the Fastnet Rally and the Killarney Historic Stages Rally ( Historics only)
