29/10/07 Boyle World Rally Festival fuels the passion Boyle, Co Roscommon is preparing for a busy weekend during Rally Ireland. The word is out… Boyle is the place to be on Friday 16th November 2007 where World Rally fever will hit the town to celebrate North Roscommon’s involvement in Rally Ireland. Following the live action at the stages in Drumshanbo, Geevagh and Arigna, thousands of spectators and participants in the 2007 World Rally Championship will descend on the town for a night not to be missed. Opening with a spectacular sound and light show at 6pm created especially for Boyle World Rally Festival, the town will be a hive of activity with events and attractions for all the family – and plenty of cars!! Dougie Hughes ‘the voice of Irish rallying’ will be MC for the night at the main location at Shop Street Public Car Park which will host the Citroen C4 and Xsara World Rally Championship winning cars alongside the Team Ireland A1GP Car –an opportunity to get up close to Team Ireland's Grand Prix Car from the World Cup of Motorsport A1GP. Micro-Cam state of the art Large Outdoor Screen featuring RTE footage from the day's stages, a special tribute to the late great Colin McRae, clips from the best of Irish rallying and entertainment for children.; Rally Simulators to take you on the thrill of a rally driving experience with top drivers including Eugene Donnelly, Kris Meeke and Colin McRae; and a complete range of Rally Ireland, top manufacturers and top Irish rally teams merchandise from Orchard Motorsport. Christmas Market and Food Event in the Grounds of King House and along the River Walk, starting at 5pm, will feature craft stalls and specialised hot food stalls with a large selection of hot foods made freshly, such as roasted pig on a spit, crepes, hot nuts, specialised sausages & burgers. Of course restaurants in Boyle and environs can expect a busy evening and the many excellent eateries are well publicised in the Rally Programme. The Crescent, in the centre of Boyle town, will be a must visit for all rally and car enthusiasts where there will be a unique showing of rally cars together with prized vintage, classic and prestige cars. Boyle Town will be open for business that evening as retail outlets offer late night shopping and the town’s main tourist attractions King House and Lough Key Forest Park (including the Boda Borg Challenge) stay open until 9pm. A Pub Music Trail will open at 8pm with live music on the balcony of the Royal Hotel - for the first time in the history of the hotel. Other live music venues include Creighton’s, The Patrick’s Well, Wynne’s Bar, Daly’s, An Craoibhin, The Moylurg Inn and a disco in The Moving Stairs, all starting at times between 8pm and 10pm as listed in the programme of events. Boyle World Rally Festival coincides with Boyle Musical Society’s presentation of West Side Story – nightly from Wednesday 14th to Sunday 18th November (booking is recommended with Boyle Musical Society). The Festival is being organised in partnership with Boyle Chamber of Commerce and Rally Ireland and with the support of Roscommon County Council, Fáilte Ireland-West Region and Arigna Leader/ Úna Bhán Tourism Co-Operative Society.
