Totally Sideways First 2wd Drive Car - Mike Quinn/Sean Enright PRE EVENT NEWS
09/11/06 John Hickey and Fubaru all go for Kerry mini stages After the wet, wild, foggy and windy Fasnet, John Hickey will be out again for his near home event. The Killarney man has had the car back in the garage and preparing for the up coming event. We had a few problems on the Fastnet John commented, by the intercom giving us trouble through out the day and 2nd gear keep jumping out maybe due to the gearboxes hard going on the cork 20 because of losing 3rd gear. The Fog was something to, it was so thick, you couldn’t see your hand in front of your face. But we were happy with the result and the rally, very well organised and gave us 3rd in class 15 in the southern 4 witch wasn’t expected, and a good shakedown for Banna. This is the Fubaru’s first championship position for the car, This is including missing important events due to repairing the engine after the lakes and the issuing of the log book, witch were West Cork, Circuit of Munster, and Ravens Rock rallies. This marks probably the last outing of the car this year and will have major developments for next year. John is hoping to have a good sponsorship package for next year hopefully for the National championship, rounds of the tarmac championship, and some outings in Britain so we will be working hard. There are major plans as well like a series for the Fubaru cars, and we might be heading for the Autosport show in Birmingham Next January to Launch the car. John also commented that this weekends rally will be a cracker with a good clubman entry and a very well run event and grows popular year by year, I had a disappointing run last year when I had the experienced John Young beside me witch gave me a good boost, and using a Subaru Group N Gc8 but I unfortunately hit a rock on one corner and damaged the drive shaft and diff but continued and finished. With hopes to do very well this weekend with the problems of the Fatsnet out of the window, and reseeded in the top ten, John and his West Cork Co-Driver Alistair Wyllie will be trying their best this weekend for a good result and will be again the high light of the rally. 08/10/06 Event Preview This years Bio Tech Mini Stages Rally will be held on Sunday the 12th November with 151 cars taking to the start ramp for a very enjoyable day of rally action. The rally is once again being sponsored by well known rally competitor and North Cork businessman Tadgh Lenihan, through his Bio Tech Waste Water Treatment Systems company and William Murphy of Banna Beach Holiday Village which will also be Rally Headquarters for the weekend. The rally is the last round of the Top Part West Coast Championship which saw Dublin man Aaron Mc Hale clinch overall victory in the championship on the Clare Stages Rally, but with 2nd and 3rd overall yet to be decided this should make for a very exciting rally. Leading the 151 cars away from the start ramp will be last years winners John Kearney / Denis O’Connell in their immaculate Ford Escort MK2, hoping to put back to back victories together on their home event. Seeded at number 2 are Monaghan crew Adrian McElvaney and Enda Sherry in their ex Richard Burns Subaru Impreza 555. At 3 are West Cork brothers and last years runners up, Kevin and Martin Kelliher (Mitsubishi Evo 9) followed at 4 by event sponsor Tadhg Lenihan and Mark Kane (Subaru N11). Former Donegal International Rally winners James Cullen and Reba Graham are seeded number 5, followed by four times winner of the Kerry Single Stage Rally, Killarney Mazda dealer Johnny O’Sullivan. At 7 another Killarney crew Kevin O`Donoghue/Joe O’Leary (Evo 9) will be vying for victory on the day. At number 8 sees local Kerry Motor Club crew Mike Quinn/Sean Enright (Escort MK2) who were leading this rally last year before engine failure brought their dreams of a home victory to an end. At 9 sees the ever improving Thomas Fitzmaurice/Keith McCarthy (Escort Cosworth) and will be a crew capable of taking a podium place in the rally. Rounding of the top ten is Limerick’s Eamon Daly co driven by Tralee`s John Young another crew who are well capable of producing a top 3 finish. The rally has attracted some of the top two wheel drive competitors in the country including Anthony O’Halloran, Aidan Walsh, Ed Synan, Pat Donegan, Mick Moloney, Diarmuid Keohane, Sean Lyons, Pat Barry, Charlie Hickey, Frank Sweeney, Fergus O’Meara, Mike Kenny and Tommy O’Sullivan. 2005 Irish and British Super 1600 Champions Brian O’Mahony/John Higgins are swapping their Ford Puma for the event and will instead be driving a Metro 6R4 in which Cork 20 International COC Frank O’Mahony had many a great result in. Killarney’s John Hickey has entered his Ford Escort 4 x 4 and after his 3rd o/a in the recent Cork 20 National Rally might well spring a surprise in the overall results. First car will leave Rally Headquarters at 10.15am and after a service halt in Tralee will head out to Stage 1 & 2.After completing these 2 stages its back to Tralee for the rally crews for their final service before they tackle stages 3 & 4.First car is due back at Rally Headquarters at 3.10pm for a champagne reception with prize giving and celebrations starting at 7pm.Offical rally programs which will include a colour map of the rally route will be available from local shops throughout the event. 03/11/06 Entry List No Driver/Co - Driver (Car) [Class] 1 John Kearney/Denis O Connell
