Round three of the Irish 4x4 off-road championship took place last
Sunday (20th Nov) in the scenic surroundings of Dunderrow, near
Kinsale in County Cork.

The Cork Motor Club promoted event saw 38
crews tackle the tough course laid out for them by C.O.C. Vincent
Dorney
and his team and although weather conditions on the day were dry
and bright, which brought out the spectators, the conditions
underfoot were muddy and slippy, one would be forgiven for thinking
someone stayed up all night watering the course and the 4x4
crews wouldn’t have it any other way.
There was an array of vehicles on display, from
the much favoured Suzuki Vitara’s to Land Rovers and a wide
selection of
purpose-built specials, all vying for honours and providing the
many spectators with an excellent display of off-road driving
skills.
The results were as follows:

1st Brian Berkery (Suzuki) 28 points
2nd Brian Dinneen (Suzuki) 32 points
3rd J.Kavanagh (Suzuki) 33 points.
Class 1.(Suzuki Class)
1st Jeremy Keohane (Jimny) 34 points
2nd Willie Houlihane (Vitara) 38 points
3rd.Owen Murphy (Vitara) 39 points
4th Stephen Byrne (Vitara) 39 points.
Class 2 (Land Rovers,Land Cruisers.over 2.1 ltr)
1st.James O Meara (Land Rover)
2nd.Ken Lyons (land Cruiser)
3rd.T.Conroy (land Rover)
Class 4 (Novice)
1st.Michael Brown (Suzuki) 44points
2nd. A.Scully (Suzuki) 47 points
3rd R.Burke (Suzuki) 47 points

1st Paul McCarthy (Suzuki special)
2nd.Joe Balfrey (Daihatsu special)
3rd.James Freeman (Daihatsu special).
The second and third finishers in class 4,A.Scully and R.Burke,
were well pleased with their days work. Considering it was their
first time
competing on a 4x4 event it was a great achievement to take home
some silverware to adorn the mantelpiece.
C.O.C. Vincent Dorney announced himself well
pleased with the whole event. 38 was the biggest entry for the
championship
so far and bodes well for the rest of the year.He wishes to thank
all the competitors for making the journey down and all the people
who came out on the day to help out.He had a special word of thanks
for the owner of the land for giving permission for the event to
go ahead.
The next round of the Championship is the Kildare Motor
Club 4x4 event on the 22nd of January 2006.

Cork Motor Club will host Round Three of the Irish 4X4 Off-Road Championship on November 20th 2005.
The event will take place in the scenic surroundings of Dunderrow,near Kinsale,and, between the venue and the keen
competition, an excellent days sport is in prospect.
The route to the venue will be arrowed from the “half-way” roundabout on the main Cork to Bandon Road.
C.O.C. for the event,Vincent Dorney and his team have been working away on the event for a while now and promise
competitors and spectators alike a great day out.
Check-in is between 9.30 and 10.00 am and the competition will start at 10.30.The entry fee will be €50.00 for entries
in before Friday the 11th of November.Late entries will be accepted but will cost €60.00.
One event licences will be available on the day for €20.00.
