Route details for the Ulster Revival Rally have been announced. Queen’s University Belfast MC are please to release the route details for the forthcoming Ulster Revival Rally. It will be as follows:
On the navigation rally, regularity timing will be used. It will be of plot and bash type navigation, but not the sort you would normally associate with a NI Navigation Championship event. Instructions will be straight forward with no trickery, and will include tulips, herringbones, spot heights, gridlines, and grid references. Entries are still available for this exciting new event. Clerk of the Course, Richard Hyland, enthused about the rally, saying, “I’m really looking forward to this event. Having driven the route I think all competitors will find it extremely challenging, yet very enjoyable to compete in!” “The forests are all in very good condition at the moment, with some very nice surfaces. I personally can’t wait to get into them again!” Richard goes on to say “With our new lower entry fee we are looking forward to seeing a healthy entry. We are very keen to attract entries from across the water, as we think this would be a fantastic shakedown event for the Lombard Revival Rally”. Ferry and accommodation deals are available for those interested. For more information visit, or alternatively speak to Patrick McCollum on 07890 561 925. (+44 7890 561 925.) 26/09/05 Entry fees have been reduced for the QUBMC Ulster Revival Rally. Queens University Belfast Motor Club have announced that the entry fee to the Ulster Revival Rally has been dropped by £50 to £180. This event is the first to use the new MSA Endurance Road Rally permit in Ireland, and it was always accepted that there would be difficulties given that no competition cars were yet built in Ireland to meet the requirements of these new rules. Since publishing the regulations, however, it has become clear that some potential entrants are being put off by having to find the money to build a car and pay the entry fee. QUBMC are committed to the format of Endurance Road Rallying in the long term, and so are prepared to take the risk of reducing the entry fee on this, the first running of the event. Obviously, any crew who have already entered and paid the higher entry fee will be refunded the difference. The night navigation part of the route will also be run as a stand alone Navigation Rally, run on a separate clubman navigational rally permit. This will allow cars that are outside of the Endurance Road Rally regulations to take part on the navigation section without participating in the rest of the event. QUBMC already run a NI championship navigation rally, as well as a beginner’s event for their rallyschool, so crews will be guaranteed a high standard of event. There will be two classes, for Experts and Novices, with each using their own instructions. Regulations and Entry Form available on: 19/07/05 QUBMC announce first Endurance Road Rally to be run in Ireland The Queen's University of Belfast Motor Club have recently announced that they will be running the Ulster Revival Rally on Friday 11th/ Saturday 12th November 2005. This rally will be run to the new MSA permit of "Endurance Road Rally". This will be the first rally to run under this permit in Ireland, following the successful running of events such as the Welsh Enduro and Lombard Revival Rally in Britain. This new formula of rallying is intended to fill the widening gap that exists between road and stage events. The Endurance Road Rally use stages, or "selectives", on closed private roads, but difference between this and stage rallying is in the cars that are allowed to compete. Only lightly modified cars of up to 1400cc (or 1900cc diesel) are permitted. This means that the cost of car preparation is drastically reduced from that of stage rallying, and entry fees are reduced as forest tracks will suffer less damage. The Ulster Revival Rally will start around noon on Friday 11th November, with a combination of selectives and road sections leading to a supper halt near Omagh. A road rally will finish the Friday competition off, and after a night's sleep, competitors will recommence, with action packed selectives around the some of the lesser-used forests of County Tyrone. As Richard Hyland, Clerk of the Course, put it, "Today, it is a simple fact that a competitor needs a tremendous amount of money before they are able to compete for outright victory in any stage rally. Our Revival Rally harks back to days when competition was open to the true amateur using a lightly modified road car. We are looking forward to the rally being a hotly contested event among the drivers and navigators as well as huge fun for all participants." Regulations and entry forms will be available from the start of August on the event's website, www.ulsterrevivalrally.com. Entries will be limited and will be on a first come first served basis. The entry fee will compare favourably to that of a national stage rally, but will offer considerably more competitive miles than such a rally.
