From the Clonakilty start on Saturday, this pair and Escort mounted Ronnie Griffin and Paul Bosdet were out in front, well clear of the opposition, with the Mini pair 17 marks in front overnight. On Sunday morning, the Escort duo went ahead briefly, but major engine problems dropped them from second to fourth at the end as Rob Bolton and Ian McCulloch took over runner up position in their Triumph TR4 ahead of novices Mark Doran and Mark O’Neill, who had a great run in their Mexico.

Named "The West Cork Classic" it takes place on May 28th & 29th next. The event last ran in 2000, when it was won by Eamon Byrne/ Paul Phelan in a Mini Cooper S. It is run mainly for pre 1975 cars though a class exists for more modern cars. The West Cork Classic will be based on the way rallies were run in the 50s & 60s Based in Clonakility in West Cork, Saturdays route will go West towards Bantry and Sundays East towards Kinsale. The event will consist of 5 regularities, a night navigation and a number of tests on private grounds. In previous years the event tended to constitute some complex navigation but this year the navigation will be kept as simple as possible to suit all types of crews, with information as straight forward as possible. The club are hoping that this format will encourage new people into Retro's,as well as bringing back the regulars. There will also be a touring car class where the competitors may just drive the route and not be timed. Regulations for the event will be available from the clerk of the course Jim Walsh (353)086 8268666 or jimwalsh1@eircom.net in the coming weeks.
