He narrowly missed victory toward the end of 2004, having to give best to Robert by 0.1seconds on that occasion but on Sunday a fastest time on the second run and almost ideal track conditions meant put the result beyond doubt. Trevor Lancashire took third overall in his Ardee Autoparts Mk2 Escort with a second fastest time on the third run. Fourth placed Dessie Tierney in his Recovery & Winch Vauxhall Tigra was fastest on the first and third runs but a maximum time on the second run when he punctured and hit a bank put paid to his victory hopes.

With many of the registered competitors from the early rounds absent the Championship classes got a shake up. In Class 1 the absence of Michael Conlon allowed Gerard Greene to take the class win and moved ahead in the championship class. In class 2 engine trouble on the second run meant that Daniel McKenna couldn’t mount a challenge to Patrick Higgins, the reigning Cavan Motor Club Champion won the class comfortably and leads the Championship class by 8 points. In Class 3 Jim McKenna continued his recent pace to win Class 3 from Mervyn Wedlock and take a 5 point lead in the Championship class from Martin Devine. Mervyn Wedlock and his son Mark now share third in the championship class on 15 points.

In class 4 the non-starting Gerard McArdle, Gene Callan and Darrell Harron allowed James Cassidy to take the lead with second in class points on the day behind the non-registered Trevor Lancashire. John Devine and Gerard McArdle now tie for second in the championship class with Colm McGuiness third. In Class 5 Joe Smith’s second class win in as many events gives him the lead on points with reigning V-MAC Silos Champion Ronnie Coulter 5 points adrift in second, Ronnie foregoing his long serving Astra so far this year in favour of his Talbot Sunbeam. In the Junior category Mark Wedlock capitalised on Daniel McKenna’s Engine woes to narrow the gap to 3 points with Stephen McArdle 6 points adrift in third. Mark also finished third in class 3 on the day, sharing a PH Rallyhire car with his father Mervyn.

The V-MAC Silo’s Autocross Championship returns to Hut Cross for Round 4 on June 12th.
