Air Traffic Controller Ian O’Flynn has given the all clear to Flight Lieutenant Tim Mc Nulty for take off but Lieutenant Mc Nulty may experience some turbulence in the form of another very fast pilot by the name of Adrian Mc Elvaney. The Monaghan man will be in Mc Nulty’s slipstream to make sure that he attacks from the startline of SS1. Tim will be hoping to build on the success of last year’s victory, on this his home event, in his freshly rebuilt Impreza. Third away from the runway is Wexford’s Noel Redmond in another Impreza. Noel has yet to chose a co-pilot but will be guaranteed to be “there or thereabouts” at the end of the day. Breaking up the Subaru domination of the top ten are the “local trio” of Maurice Gass, in his Fabia WRC, Tom Holton, in a Celica 205 and Pat Donegan in his F-16 Fighter Jet (aka Ford Escort Mk 2). Rounding off the top ten are Kildare’s Tommy Graham, Meath’s Paddy White and Dublin’s Willie Fannin all in Imprezas while Donegal’s Brendan Kelly is in tenth in an Evo 6. Further entries to note are Tommy Randles in his Celica at 11 and Alan Nesbitt at 14. Other “RWD men” to note include Paddy Boyle, Gordon Rogers, Mac Mc Kenna, “Swervin” Mervyn Wedlock, Thomas Mc Govern and Declan Tansey to name but a few. This selection proves as only a taster to what promises to be one of the most exciting entrylist’s so far this year. The full entrylist can be viewed at www.almc.ie as well as further event details. ALMC are delighted to be back at the Lakeside Manor Hotel in Virginia for the 2005 Stages Rally and COC Ian O’Flynn would like to thank the management and staff of the hotel for their co-operation so far. Ian would also like to thank the residents along the route for without their help the event would not be possible. Car number 1 will be flagged away from rally headquarters at 10.15am on Sunday next the 21st of August to battle it out over 9 Special Stages (3 stages completed 3 times)with the victorious car returning to the hotel at approx 6pm. The special stages take in the Nobber, Moynalty, Mullagh areas. ALMC Motor Club 08/08/05 Overview Map Rally Programmes will be on sale at the Rally Headquarters and local petrol stations on the weekend of the rally. 19/07/05 Final preparations are now underway for the 2005 Lakeside Manor Hotel ALMC Stages Rally as Sunday the 21st of August approaches. Exhaustive measures have been taken to ensure all safety precautions have been adhered to and this years COC, Ian O'Flynn, is confident that the event will run as smoothly as previous years. Ian would like to thank his organising committee for the help they have given him so far and would also like to express his thanks to the residents along the route who have been so welcoming towards the event. Building on the success of last year's event, the Aer Lingus Motor Club have decided to return to the fantastic venue of the Lakeside Manor Hotel. ALMC would like to thank the sponsors of the event; The Lakeside Manor Hotel, Virginia Couriers, Clarke's Cash & Carry and Kells Hire, for without their support this fantastic motorsport event could not happen. Recce for the event takes place on Saturday the 20th of August. The event consists of approximately 80 competitive stage miles split into 9 Special Stages circling the Mullagh, Moynalty, and Nobber areas with a centralized servicing area. Stage 1, "Hollywood Boulevard", is a mixture of tight technical sections with some high speed stretches towards the finish. Stage 2, "Gangsters Paradise", is a fast flowing stage while the aptly named Stage 3, "Brooklyn", is a definite test for both navigator and driver. Entries close on the 29th of July. This year's event is a counting round of the the Midlands East Rally Championship, The Ford Ka Championship, The Peugeot 205 Championship as well as a special award for the highest placed Mk 2 Escort. The event will also have a Junior class which has proven to be one of the most exciting and competitive classes this year. A full seeding list will appear on www.almc.ie as soon as seeding is completed. Class 17 ALMC wish to clarify information regarding Historics. Class 17 will include all Historic Rally Cars defined as follows: Historic: Category 1: Road legal cars built between 1/1/1931 and 31/12/1957 and Touring and GT cars, models homologated between 1/1/1958 and 31/12/1969. Post Historic: Category 2: Touring and GT cars of Groups 1 to 4, models homologated between 1/1/1970 and 31/12/1975. Classic: Category 3: Touring and GT cars of Groups 1 to 4, models homologated between 1/1/1976 and 31/12/1981. These cars will compete on the event from Stages 5 to 9 inclusive and entry fee for the Historic Rally Car class is €220. Main field entries to note so far include 2 times winner Tim Mc Nulty in his S10 along with Maurice Gass in his Fabia, Paddy White and Peter Wilson in an Evo IX. Entries close on July 29th. On Sunday August the 21st, 131 of Ireland’s top rally cars will be flagged off from the Lakeside Manor Hotel in Virginia, Co. Cavan to compete in the ALMC Stages Rally. Building on the outstanding success of last years event, the Aer Lingus Motor Club have decided to return to this fantastic venue. This years Clerk of the Course, Ian O’Flynn, has chosen 3 challenging stages to test every element of the driver and navigator’s skill. Ian was been involved with the club for more years than he cares to remember and has been COC for many events as well as competing in them. Ian also has a very experienced committee behind him bringing together members from counties Louth, Meath, Dublin, Roscommon, Westmeath and Cavan which goes to show the vast catchment area of the ALMC. Ian and his team have spent hours and hours over the past 8 months busily preparing for the long awaited event to ensure that everything runs smoothly over the course of the weekend. Ian praised the Meath people for the warm reception the event has received and thanked the residents along the rally route for their patience and goodwill during the event. Ian would also like to thank the management and staff of this years rally headquarters; the Lakeside Manor Hotel, Virginia which will be a hive of activity over the rally weekend. On Saturday the 20th of August the colourful cavalcade of rally cars and their support vehicles will converge on the town of Virginia. They’re first task is to familiarise themselves with the stages, which is known as a “recce run”. When the competitors have completed their recce, cars are presented at mechanical scrutiny where the cars are tested both for safety and legality. This also provides an opportunity for the spectators to get the first glimpse of the competitor’s machinery. Scrutiny takes place in Virginia Couriers, Kells Industrial Estate and commences at 3pm. On Sunday the 21st of August the cars will leave the start ramp at 10.15am, to battle it out over approx 80 competitive stage miles split into 9 Special Stages circling the Mullagh, Moynalty, and Nobber areas with a centralized servicing area. Full details on stage locations, starting times and competitor entry list will be included in the official colour programme which will be available in local Newsagents, Service Stations and at Rally HQ from Wednesday evening the 17th August. This year’s event sees the rally as a counting round of a record three championships, namely The Midlands East Rally Championship, The Ford Ka Championship, The Peugeot 205 Championship as well as being part of the Escort Mk 2 Experience with a special award for the highest placed Mk 2 Escort. The event will also have a Junior class which has proven to be one of the most exciting and competitive classes this year. Regulations will be posted to all last years competitors and will also be available to download from www.almc.ie and www.midlandseastrallychampionship.com in the coming week. Entries will be at a premium and potential competitors are urged to return their completed entry forms plus entry fee as soon as possible as entries will be handled on a first come first served basis. Local driver Tim Mc Nulty will no doubt be out to repeat his victory on last year’s ALMC Stages Rally and his fantastic run in Donegal will do his confidence no harm. Tim has won the event for the previous 2 years running and is among prestigious company with previous winners including Austin Mc Hale and the legendary Mickey Farrell. As soon as seeding is complete a full entry list will be available from www.almc.ie. To ensure a safe and successful running of the event, ALMC will require the assistance of over 200 marshals, rescue units, ambulances & recovery vehicles during the rally weekend. Chief Marshal, Peter Reamsbottom has enrolled the help of marshals from Birr & District Auto Club, Midland Motor Club, Carlow Motor Club, NEMC, Cavan Motor Club, Garda Siochana Motor Club, Castle MC and Donegal Motor Club because the event carries extra safety procedures this year the club requires a larger number of marshals than ever before. From Saturday to Monday 20th-22nd August, the duties to be undertaken will include stage setup, spectator control and stage clean up. Not only is the ALMC Stages Rally a huge sporting occasion, it contributes significantly to the local economy. Along with the 260+ competitors and their service crews, there will be a massive influx of enthusiastic rally followers all requiring accommodation in the Kells area. This, coupled with the extra revenue generated from extra spending in the area, means that Kells and surrounding areas will benefit to the tune of over five hundred thousand Euros. As in previous years, ALMC welcome competitors, service crews, supporters and spectators to the area and hope they all enjoy the spectacular occasion.
