Donegal Motor Club has just announced details of it’s National Championship Hillclimb rounds at the world famous Knockalla rally and Hillclimb course. Clerk of the Course for the Donegal Motor Club Knockalla Hillclimb, Danny Gormley, to-day announced the new title sponsor for the event as the Blaney Group, with the event based from the Milford Inn Hotel, Milford. The event is scheduled for Saturday 4th and Sunday 5th September.

Mr. Gormley thanked the Blaney Group for their assistance in bringing this important National Championship back the Fanad area again this year. “We are very happy that the Blaney Group and the Milford Inn Hotel have been associated with this event. The Milford Inn Hotel is always supported the Donegal Motor Club in this area in the past, an I am pleased that once again the strong business relationship has been continued with the Knockalla Hillclimb.”

He continued, “This Donegal Hillclimb itself began here, and has been associated with the Knockalla Coast road since the early 1970’s, shortly after this important route was opened and become established as a tourist attraction in its own right so many years ago.

The Donegal Motor Club are privileged to be able to use this piece of roadway, and thank the Donegal County Council for the co-operation in obtaining the use of the hill route for the week-end, to the residents and landowners of the area, for their assistance and understanding in working with the Donegal Motor Club to provide a spectacular event once again on this late summer MotorSport date, by bringing some of the fastest speed and Hillclimb cars to this famous Donegal course.”

The week-end of speed, will host rounds of the MotorSport Ireland, Dunlop Hillclimb Championship, for the Frank Keane Trophy, and qualifying as a round of the Oil Burner Trading Donegal Motor Club Championship. The number of entries for the event are expected to be in high demand from all across the country, and regulations are now available from: William Coyle, 216 Ros Suilighe, Letterkenny, Co. Donegal, closing on Friday 27th August 2004.

The event will consist of a ‘double header format’, with two separate Hillclimbs taking place, one on Saturday 4th and repeated again on Sunday 5th of September. The famous event was run at the Knockalla location during the 70’s and 80’s, and attracting the cream of Irish MotorSport in it’s heyday. The tough climb takes place on the most picturesque course anywhere in Ireland, and part of the course and adjoining beach have been seen by millions all over the world on promotional material used by Bord Failte now Fáilte /Tourism Ireland during the past 30 years.

Mark Gibson, Clerk for the Course for the Sunday event, appealed for spectators to co-operate with the marshals on the week-end by adhering to the parking arrangements for the week-end, details of which will be announced shortly.

This will assist with the local flow of traffic, and make the event enjoyable for everyone on the week-end.

Roads will be closing for the competition each day @ 9.30 a.m. with the first practice runs starting at 10.30 a.m.
