The Computer Society of the National University of Ireland, Galway is hosting a lecture on the use of Information Technology in Motorsport. During the evening all aspects of the practical applications of IT will be explored from engine management & traction control systems to Formula 1 telemetry and analysis. The lecture will not dwell on complexity of the technology but will be more of an introduction to the way IT has changed the face of Motorsport and subsequently road cars.

Three high tech rally cars will be on static display; however they can be seen in action three days later on the Galway International Rally. The latest state of the art Motorsport technology will be represented by J.J. Fleming’s new Prodrive Subaru Impreza WRC S9. Mike Bird’s new Mitsubishi EVO8 and John Folan’s recently acquired Ford Escort Cosworth represent recent milestones in the development of IT in Motorsport. The lecture is planned to last no more than one hour and the guest lecturers are Eugene Jordan (Galway Motor Club Webmaster), Robbie Ward (Rally Competitor) and Angus Sealy (Programming Technology).

The lecture will take place in lecture theatre IT125 on Wednesday 4th February at 8.00pm. All are welcome to attend. A Static display of Rally machinery will be on campus from 3.00pm.

IT125 is located on the first floor of the IT building. Access will be sign posted from the main concourse entrance (biggest building on campus beside the James Hardiman Library). (Turn right after entering the main door and take the second left down the corridor and across the bridge to the IT building. The Lecture theatre is the third door on your right.)
