With new sponsors on board in the form of HMC Communications, a training services company, Colin and Kenny were keen to gain another good result at the wheel of their Nissan Micra. A lack of funds resulted in the pair missing the fourth round of the series and their championship lead had been reduced from eight points to just two points. A good result at the Mourne event was essential to bolster their chances of lifting the class three crown at the end of the year.

The day started well for the A.B. Contracts Micra as Colin and Kenny set fifth fastest time on the opening stage. Another good run on stage two resulted in fourth fastest time and Colin moved into fourth position. Despite the car struggling through steep sections of the stages, they continued to set a good pace throughout the event and managed to set equal second fastest time on the second run through Big Gullion. A good points scoring finish was within sight and sure enough, Colin and Kenny kept it together to take fourth in their class. Kenny said: 'The pace was immense! We had a good, clean run and no problems but we're not sure if the engine is set-up quite right yet ' we struggled with any steep parts in a big way. We also had a few hairy moments too but managed to get away with them!'

Another solid finish has helped Colin and Kenny to increase their championship lead once again. The little Micra, which is also sponsored by Pacenotes, is now being prepared for the final four gravel events of the season. Round six of the championship, the Dogleap Rally, is due to take place on August 9.
