Welcoming the announcement by Toshiba, TROA (Irish Tarmac Rally Organisers Association) Chairman, Austin Frazer said :- "I am delighted that Toshiba have again renewed their sponsorship and I would be confident that the return of a full seven event programme and the increased commitment from Toshiba will greatly assist TROA in their goal of establishing the Irish Tarmac Championship as one of the most exciting in Europe". The Championship will have a very different look to it in 2001, the traditional Galway opener will move to a new November date and be the final event of the year, while a revamped Circuit of Ireland, based in Enniskillen during the Easter weekend, will adopt the mantle of Championship curtain raiser.

The Killarney Lakes provides its usual unique challenges during the May bank holiday weekend while the Donegal International retains its traditional June slot in the calendar.

The first weekend in August brings another change with the Manx International providing the prospect of a titanic battle between the WRC cars of the Toshiba and the British championship contenders. While the re appearance of the Ulster Rally a month later will again provide a stern test for all competitors and further British Championship interest. For so many years the final round, The Cork 20 will again retain its traditional October date but will now become the penultimate round of next years Championships.

The promotion of the Championship has been further boosted by an extension to the existing arrangements with Ulster Television and Tyndall PR Productions for televising all of the rounds. This increased television exposure with transmissions on UTV, TV3 and a number of satellite channels will benefit not just the Championship but will also be a major boost for individual event sponsors and competitors, concluded Championship Manager, Don Wilmont.
