The fourth round of the Championship also attracted Peugeot 106 Cup star Max McKillen. Max drove brilliantly, battling over the days opening stages with Mauger, however a spin on Stage three ruined his hopes of victory. Ben Briant had a difficult day damaging a front hub on the morning practice session. Briant continued with a ill handling car to take a well deserved third place. The equality of the cars and the standard of driving was reinforced by the results of the Rallysprint when only 0.7 of a second separated the crews after the first stage. “I am absolutely thrilled to have won both the Rallysprint and the Ford Racing Puma Rally Championship, it is a dream come true. It has been a very tough Championship, I have had to fight every step of the way, it was impossible to relax. I am really looking forward to the prize drive in San Remo later in the year” said Simon. The 2000 Ford Puma Rally Championship is the first one make rally championship to use works specification identically prepared 1400 Ford Puma Kit Cars. The Ford Racing Puma Rally Championship is designed to promote young rallying talent and is part of the Ford Motor Company’s stairway to success, that sees the Ford Motor Company providing young drivers with competitive rally machinery throughout the careers. The Silverstone Rallysprint was the fourth out of the five event Championship.
