There was a sting in the tail for Richard Davis in the Munster M.C.&C.C. loose autocross run on St.Stephens day.The event which was the penultimate round of the Jerry Murphy Tyres Munster Autocross Championship was held in Midleton. Posted: December 27, 1999 3:07 PM
After two timed runs, Davis was driving beautifully in his Suzuki Special and with a time 2mins.11.75 secs. he was four seconds clear of the field.The Ballycotton man seemed odds on to win his first autocross until he engaged in Yuletide generosity in lending his car to Gordon Percy for the third timed run.Davis couldnt improve his personal time,but Percy raced around the slippery but smooth track to record FTD with a time of 2.11.03. Percy first, Davis second. In third place was Ray Benskin in a Ford Escort Mk 2 and he headed a quintet of similar cars driven by Michael Linehan,Richard Mc Carthy,Joe Shinnors and Sean Benskin.Eight overall was claimed by another Ford, the Sierra 4X4 of Mark Murphy while the top ten was completed by Pete Willoughby in the Opel Kadett and Kieran Roche in another Escort.
