MURPHY RE-ELECTED PRESIDENT OF GALWAY MOTOR CLUB

Gerry Murphy was re-elected for his third year as President of Galway Motor Club at the club's annual general meeting in the Salthill Hotel, Galway this week. Brian Thornton was elected as vice-President and media officer. The honorary secretary is again Dennis Murphy, and Bobby Clinton was confirmed as honorary treasurer.

The in-coming committee members are Ray Bent, Ciaran Burke, Martin Casey, Bruce Catchpole, Hugh Conlon, George Cullen, Martin Keegan, Dave Leonard, Eleanor O'Boyle, and Pat Sheil.

The meeting heard that Galway Motor Club currently has 165 members, many of whom are active competitors in motorsport events both in Galway and throughout the country. The revised dates calendar for next year was outlined to the members - it will several dramatic changes compared with this years listing.

The season starts on March 26 with the Galway 'Summer' car rally - Motorsport Ireland National Stages Championship for the Vard Memorial Trophy & Top Part West Coast Rally Challenge rounds. A new event on April 15/16 will be a 'Retro' historic Classic car rally. The speed hillclimbs in Ballyvaughan, Co. Clare will be on May 6/7. The new West 2000 International car rally, a Toshiba Equium Tarmac Rally Championship round is scheduled for July 22/23. The Motorsport Ireland National Championship autocross will be on August 12/13. The Motorsport Ireland National Championship [Hewison] autotest is listed for October 28.

The club has plans to become involved with Kart meetings at Pallas, Tynagh, near Portumna in May and on September 24.
