The Kildare driver scored his maiden victory on a loose autocross at Campbells pit near Clonakilty. The event was the second round of the Jerry Murphy Tyres Munster Autocross Championship and was hosted by the Skibbereen and District Car Club. On a wet and windy day, Byrne roared around the track in his new Suzuki special in a time of 2mins.51.23 seconds, on his first timed run. Richard Percy in the Ford Special encountered mechanical problems on his first and second runs. And try as he may on the slowing track, the Tipperary man came tantalisingly close to beating Byrne. Percy was just three quarters of a second adrift. Barry Galvin from Dripsey drove his VW Golf quite brilliantly to record third place, beating a number of specials in the process. Galvin was naturally the fastest saloon car, as well as winning Class 3.
Other class winners were: Paddy O Connor(Fiesta), Austin Shinnors(Corsa), Mick Linehan(Escort), Richard Percy(Ford Special) and Ger Brennan(Chevrolet Special).

The next round of the Munster Autocross Championship will hosted by the Killarney Club at Doyles Pit on April 18th.
