Rallyconnection Scholarship Final. Mk 2 fans were treated to a fantastic show of skill from all 6 finalists in the 2006-7 Rallyconnection scholarship held on Sunday 11 February at Millstreet, Cappagh, Dungarvan, Co.Waterford. The 6 finalists are all novice drivers who would not have previously held a drivers competition licence. The quality of expertise shown by these drivers in the very testing conditions after the overnight rain was above expectation and made the task of picking a winner a very difficult one for the panel of judges who were Owen Murphy the 2006 Billy Coleman award winner, Trevor J Harding the flamboyant gravel man, and the 2006 National Forestry Champion co-driver Micky Joe Morrissey. The final was contested in Mk 2 Escorts on a gravel stage driven both clockwise and anti-clockwise with the final 4 laps on a time trial. The finalists were Gordon Leonard from Limerick, Sean Butler from Dublin, Ferlin Taylor from Sligo, Peter Thompson from Cork, Mark Kirwin from Laois and the eventual winner Benny Kennedy from Tipperary. Benny won himself an all expenses paid rally in this year’s National Forestry championship to the value of 3500 Euro.
