21/11/06 All systems go! It’s "all systems go" for the System Signs Clubman Stages Rally which takes place this Saturday in the Derrygonnelly area. The action is centred in the Forest Service’s picturesque Lough Navar complex with over thirty-five competitive miles on offer. The rally, which is restricted to two-wheel drive cars, has attracted over sixty entries, headed by the rapid Enniskillen driver, Stewart Clarke in his BDA-engined Escort. Stewart led the event last year, until mechanical problems forced an early retirement. Rodney White, from Crumlin is at number two in his Sunbeam, which boasts sixteen-valve Vauxhall power. Last year’s third-placed driver, John Watters, from Ardara is at three, with Harold Brown at four in the rapid Astra. The event starts at ten o’clock and is scheduled to finish around six, which means that the latter stages will take place in darkness; an unusual challenge for the modern competitors, who are more accustomed to "office hours" rallying. The event takes place on Saturday 25th November and is based in the Derrygonnelly area with the focus of the stage action centred on the testing Lough Navar forest drive. The Forest Service have worked very closely with both Rally Ireland and the local club to bring the road up to a superb standard which should provide a spectacular event. The rally is resricted to two-wheel drive cars only, so the top ten will have a different appearance to other local events. With several days to go until the closing date, the entry list is still filling up, but already several top crews have entered. A likely contender for overall victory will be Stewart Clarke at the wheel of his rebuilt Escort BDA, although the rapid Crumlin driver Rodney White in his Vauxhall-engined Sunbeam and Harold Brown in the Astra can't be discounted. Andrew Trotter [Escort], Alan Cathcart [Honda], Trevor Elliott [Escort], Paul McShea [Manta] and Gary McElhinney will also be keen to challenge for a podium position. Other interesting entries include Ronan Cox [Nova], Howard Clarke [Peugeot] and Alistair Fisher [Peugeot] who has improved greatly this year and is widely-tipped as Fermanagh's next rally star. Several legendary names from the history of Irish rallying have also entered; Ernest McMillen was a works driver in the 1960's with the Rootes team and he will be in action at Logh Navar at the wheel of his Suzuki Swift, while Fermanagh legend Ron Neely is making a one-off appearance for the first time in over twenty years. Famous for his giant-killing acts in his self-built Minis, Ron has won awards on every major tarmac rally in these islands. Enniskillen Motor Club are confident that the System Signs event will be of the highest quality and are deeply indebted to Aisling Dooris, the sponsor and to the Forest Service for their suport for the rally. 08/10/06 Date Change Enniskillen Motor Club are delighted to announce that the System Signs Clubman Stages will now take place on Saturday, 25 th November 2006 . Due to venue-availability problems, the original October date had to be scrapped, but Clerk of the Course, Declan Gannon and his team have worked hard to secure the new date.
