Co Cavan Motor Club Autocross Loose Surface 27th November.
Round 6 of Co Cavan Motor Club V Mac Silos Quarrycross Championship 2005.
At an extremely cold Hutt Cross last Sunday multiple V-MAC Silos Autocross champion Ronnie Coulter added another victory to his long list of successes in 5 years of competition at Cavan Motor Clubs venue. The Fivemiletown driver finished 0.98 seconds ahead of Mervyn Wedlock with Moynalty garage owner James Cassidy 0.27 seconds further back in third place.

With the class rotation system in use this year the early pace came from the lower CC cars with Danny McCormick setting fastest time on the first run in his Nova, with Mervyn Wedlock getting inside the same second in the closing stages of the timed run. With the low winter sunshine providing little warmth to dry the track some slippy areas remained in the lower sections under the rock face and proved a challenge to the drivers as the day went on.
On the Second timed run Ronnie Coulter upped his pace by some 5 seconds to record fastest time with the next three drivers James Cassidy, Daniel McKenna and Mervyn Wedlock all on the same second. Daniel McKenna capitalised on the benefit of warm tyres following a re-run of his second timed run. Mervyn Wedlock went on to record fastest time on the third run by 0.1 of a second from Coulter with Ollie O’Rielly finding his pace to record third fastest on the same second.
Among the Classes the competition reflected the pace at the head of the field, Ashley McAdoo took victory in class 1 with fastest times on the second and third runs. The rallycross mini of Michael Conlon was second in class despite retiring on the last run. Gabriel Greene’s Nova was initially fastest in class but had to settle for third. Even though Danny McCormick was fastest in class 2 on the first an third runs he lost out to Michael McConnell ‘s similar car by 1.27 seconds. Daniel McKenna was a further half-second adrift in third.
In class 3 Russell Woods had a massive 7 second margin of victory over his nearest challenger having recorded fastest times on the last two runs. Sligo’s John McGettrick headed a brace of Honda Civics in second place, two seconds ahead of Willie Woods’s example. In Class 4 James Cassidy established a 1 second lead on each timed run to take victory over Joe Smith’s similar car. The Peugeot 205 RWD of Gerard McArdle was third in Class.
With Ronnie Coulter winning the event Mervyn Wedlock took the class 5 win with Ollie O’Rielly’s G3 example of the Ford Escort second in the category. The Moffett family name has become synonymous with Hutt Cross over the years and Sunday saw the appearance of the second generation of that famous Clontibret family when Robert’s eldest son Sam led his father home double driving a Bike Engined Buggy and also finished ahead of his cousin Richard in the Junior Category. As has become the norm this year Daniel McKenna added another maximum points haul to his Junior Points tally with 9th overall.
The final round of the V-MAC Silo’s Autocross Championship tales place on December 27th.
