17/12/06 UNITES STATES RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP ANNOUNCES THE 2006 UNITED STATES RALLY CHAMPIONS The United States Rally Championship (USRC) announced the 2006 United States Rally Champions in all-wheel drive (AWD) and two-wheel drive (2WD) categories. Seamus Burke, an experienced Irish driver living in Georgia, is the 2006 USRC AWD Driver Champion and Christine Beavis, an experienced, young Californian, is the 2006 USRC AWD Co-Driver Champion. Bruce Davis of California is the 2006 USRC 2WD Champion and Jimmy Brandt, one of the top US co-drivers in the unofficial lifetime points standings, is the 2006 USRC 2WD Champion. Burke and Beavis in their Mitsubishi Evolution 8 were narrowly second behind the 2005 United States Rally Champions Lawless and Gillespie at Rally New York USA, the season opener, and won International Rally Tennessee and Prescott Rally. They were able to overcome difficulties with their car at Laughlin International Rally to secure the closely contested Championship over Wolfgang Hoeck and Piers O’Hanlon. Davis and Brandt, who were driving Dodge Neon SRT-4, showed their perseverance and commitment. While they were not always the fastest car in their category, they won in the end three events – Subaru Rim of the World Rally, Olympus International Rally and International Rally Tennessee. The Class Winners in the 2006 United States Rally Championship are Burke and Beavis in Open 4WD, Davis and Brandt in Open 2WD, Street and Amato in Group N and Marciniak and Wittish in Stock Class. The 2006 United States Rally Champions will be honored at the United States Auto Club (USAC) Annual Awards Banquet at the Westin Hotel in Indianapolis, Indiana on Friday, January 19, 2007. 17/03/06 UNITED STATES RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP ADOPTS SUPER RALLY REGULATIONS The United States Rally Championship (USRC) has adopted the Super Rally Regulations for the 2006 season. The Super Rally that was introduced by Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) in International rallying has been a great success. The United States Rally Championship wants to offer the advantages of Super Rally to US rally. Super Rally has been beneficial to competitors who uniformly like the opportunity to restart a multi-leg rally and being scored in the overall classification after not being able to finish a leg of an event. Super Rally is equally liked by spectators and sponsors who can see their favorite drivers and cars to the end of the rally. The details of the USRC Super Rally Regulations have been published on the USRC website at 26/02/06 UNITED STATES RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP INSTITUTES TWO-WHEEL DRIVE CHAMPIONSHIP The United States Rally Championship (USRC) recognizes the importance of two-wheel drive (2WD) rally cars for the development and the well-being of the sport of rallying in the United States. The Championship is therefore prepared to lend support to those numerous competitors who compete in 2WD classes. With the recent proliferation of all-wheel drive (AWD) turbocharged rally cars, the Championship wishes to provide more visibility to teams with 2WD cars. Toward that end, the Board of Directors of the United States Rally Championship, Inc. has decided to institute a 2WD United States Rally Championship. Effective immediately, the overall USRC classification will be separated into the 2WD United States Rally Championship and the AWD United States Rally Championship. The winners of the United States Rally Championship in the 2WD classes will receive the titles of the USRC 2WD Driver Champion and the USRC 2WD Co-Driver Champion. Similarly, the winners of the United States Rally Championship in the AWD classes will be awarded the titles of the USRC AWD Driver Champion and the USRC AWD Co-Driver Champion. The United States Rally Championship, America’s premier rally championship, consists of Federation Internationale de L’Automobile (FIA) internationally listed events sanctioned by the United States Auto Club (USAC) and presented by the National Auto Sport Association (NASA). More information on the Championship is available at the series website at www.usrallychampionship.com. More information on USAC is available at www.usacracing.com, on NASA at www.nasarallysport.com and on FIA at www.fia.com. 04/08/05 2006 UNITED STATES RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP EXPANDED TO EIGHT ROUNDS Schedule includes the return of the Olympus Rally as well as two full tarmac events The 2006 United States Rally Championship will be expanded to eight rounds announced championship officials today in Indianapolis. Included will be the return of the famed Olympus Rally in Washington State, as well as full tarmac events in New York State and Tennessee. The 2006 schedule will begin with the Cherokee Trails International Rally in Tennessee in March. The action will then head north for Rally New York USA in early April. Teams will then head over to the west coast for the Subaru Rim of the World Rally in California in late April, followed by the Olympus International Rally three weeks later in Washington State. After a summer break, the action will resume in the east with the all tarmac Rally Tennessee over Labor Day weekend, and the all tarmac International Rally New York later in September. Cars will then move west for the final two events, the well-established Prescott Rally in Arizona in October, followed by the season final at the Laughlin International Rally, formerly the Ramada Express International Rally, in Laughlin, Nevada in November. “We’re excited about the expansion of the schedule,” stated Ray Hocker, one of the Championship organizers, “Prescott has a long history as a national level event, and the legend of the Olympus Rally is known to everybody in the rally community. We especially welcome the return of this former WRC event after a 14 year hiatus.” “That’s not to give short-shrift to the eastern events either,” continued Hocker, “With the two full tarmac rounds in New York and Tennessee, the Championship will be a true test of drivers on all surfaces.” “USAC is ecstatic at the growth of the series,” added Rollie Helmling, President of the United States Auto Club, “With eight internationally listed events evenly spread between the east and west, awareness of the sport here in the U.S. will continue to grow in leaps and bounds. The benefit of this growth for competitor and fan alike is immeasurable, and USAC is proud to be part of it.” “NASA is as well proud of its continuing involvement in this top-level series,” added John Lindsey, Chief Divisional Director of the National Auto Sport Association, “we’ve been working with many of these organizers since the formation of our Rally Sport arm, and it is nice to see their and our efforts being rewarded and the series expanding.” 2006 United States Rally Championship
