Cork motor club will host their two-day forestry event and for those competitors who wanted to test their skills against an international field there is The Colin McRae Stages in Scotland. EMC’s rally time trial will see an interesting change of venue as the event, which is usually run through the tight and demanding lanes of Carn Quarry in Ederney. Unfortunately due to a healthy increase in production the plant was unavailable on this occasion, and in order to maintain their event date the club duly decided on a radical change of venue. Despite the change of setting and surface the event still should quench the motor sport bug for most. Man of the moment in last years event Conor Kelly, from Beragh driving his Nissan Sunny notched up his second victory, however Conor has decided not to defend the crown this year, which could possibly pave the way to an equally impressive victor on Saturdays event, and some of those closely regarded to be included in the tight battle are Raymond Johnston, Ballinamallard, in his Mitsubishi EvoVIII MR & Nigel McCutcheon, Trillick in his Peugeot 106 who finished second and third respectively, last year.

Clerks of the course Eamon McGarrity and Cyril Hughes have made limited changes to the May- day events structure, to create a very fast, demanding track, which in the past has proved to be very popular with all the drivers. A fresh coating of tarmac on the perimeter roads has radically changed the course, however any sign of rain may add to the excitement. The event will start at approximately 11.00 am with one practise run, this will be followed by five timed runs, and with the overall victor and of course class victor’s being decided by the fastest time of the day the competition will be intense. Amongst Raymond Johnston in the four wheel drive Section are the Father son combination of Charles and William Mavitty, Jimmy Donnelly and Event sponsor Aidan Curran all of whom will be out for number one spot. The two wheel drive brigade are also well represented George, Trevor and Wendy Elliott, Kesh Karl Johnston, Brian Durnien, Brian Armstrong, Sean McQuaid all vying to bring more victory to the mighty Mk2 Escort. Ronnie Coulter the quarry sprint king will bring his trusty Talbot Sunbeam, Selwyn and Mark Browne will go dual entry in their Peugeot 306 Gti, whilst Harold Brown will rely on his tried and trusted Vauxhall Astra. Class three is one of the largest classes in the event Brian Tolan and Declan Campbell will lead it away, other family battles will include Brendan Campbell, and Fabian and Damien McAleer. Following closely by in the class will be Marty Leonard and Alan Cathcart. The event will also see an intense rookie battle with many driver’s making their debut Darren McGrath and Emlyn Burns and Adrian McBride are some of the drivers. The ladies are also well represented Jackie Elliott will switch seats for the day along with Stella Cunningham, Gillian Neely and Wendy Elliott.

Along with the top class rallying action the mini-moto riders will also complement the days attractions along with trade stands and refreshments a great day out is sure to be had by all the family. Action starts at 11:00 am and car parking is widely available any queries on the event call Martin McGarrity on
