Round 4 - 2003 V-MAC Silo’s Autocross Championship
by Gerry Buckley

Following his non-start in April, reigning Autocross Champion Cyril McCullough will be eager to regain the series lead before the summer break as he now trails Ronnie Coulter by 12 points. Round 4 which takes place next Sunday at the Cavan Motor Club venue at Hut Cross outside Cootehill,Co.Cavan will be Cyril’s first run on the full length track, the extension having being completed in April.

Another driver who will be hoping to go one better than round 3 is Dessie Tierney, the former Autocross Champion driving the ex-Beggs lightweight Vauxhall Tigra won the Castle Auto Club event held last weekend in Athboy Co.Meath. The Road Assistance & Recovery boss from Laragh Co.Cavan was second to Ronnie Coulter in April and there is clearly a lot more to come from both Dessie and the car.

Throughout the classes of the championship the competition is very close, in Class 1 just just 6 points separate the top three, with Gerard Greene the leader. In Class 2 Adrian Farrelly has an 8 point advantage with Joseph Smith and Adrian Fox tied for second, although class winner in Athboy last weekend is also one to watch here.

In Class 3 Ollie McCormick has a comfortable 10 point lead over rapid Sligo driver John McGettrick, with the consistent Warren Carleton 3rd. In class 4 Ollie O Reilly has no car at present with which to defend his slender 1 point advantage over his navigator Arthur Kierans and Garreth McCullagh. Class 5 reflects the overall standings with Ronnie Coulter leading Cyril McCullough by 7 points with Thomas McGovern 3rd. The action gets underway at 10:30am under the stewardship of Clerk of the Course Paddy Smith, there is ample car parking and hot food will be served all day.
