Colin McRae protégé Kris Meeke, is set to tackle the 2003 Junior World Rally Championship with Opel's S1600 Corsa.

Kris is confident after extensive negotiations, that his management company have secured a very competitive package. "The car is still in its infancy, and has already shown its true potential during 2002, by leading Rally Deutschland and running second on Rally Great Britain. There is also an extensive testing and development package included in the programme, so we should benefit from a good amount of seat time."

Team Palmer from England will run the operation, with the support and ongoing development from Opel in Germany. Another change for the Monte Carlo Rally is a switch of co-drivers. "Chris Patterson has tested with Colin before, and with his wealth of experience has been drafted in to help. My regular co-driver, Glenn Patterson (from Dungannon) will travel to Monte Carlo to learn the event, so I think it's in everyone's benefit in the long term.

The objective is simple for the young Ulsterman. "Hopefully this is part of a two year programme. We have never had the benefit of bringing our own pace notes to an event before, and this year will be no exception. For that reason, we will have to concentrate on finishing each and every round, and learn as much as possible about the car and the rallies."
