Micra Duo Look For SponsorshipPosted: November 20, 2002 8:33 AM - 9714 Hits
Posted: November 20, 2002 8:33 AM Colin Britton, a 22-year-old joiner from Strabane, started competing two years ago as a co-driver but he soon swapped seats after winning the Rally Experience Scholarship in 2001. Out of thousands of hopefuls, Colin was short-listed for the semi-final where his driving ability was assessed. He progressed to the final where he beat seven other finalists to take the £600 prize. Kirkistown's Eurocables Stages signalled the start of a new season for the N. I. rally series and Colin teamed up with 21-year-old Kenny Hull, a mechanical engineering student from Banbridge, to begin an assault on the championship. The Kirkistown event proved to be unlucky as they failed to finish but it was their only retirement of the year. Top five finishes in their class on seven out of the remaining eight events ensured the pair third position at the end of the year. Kenny said: "At the beginning of the year our main aim was to finish as many rallies as possible and gain experience. As the season progressed we became quicker and quicker and were very pleased with the improvement in such a short space of time." "I definitely feel that with the right backing Colin can continue to improve. In the event of finding a big sponsor, the Peugeot 206 Super Cup would be a desirable option but in the meantime we are going to do the Galloway Hills rally on December 1."
