Bones O'Connor / Paul Phelan (Impreza) took victory on the Carrick-on-Suir MC Navigation Trial last night. This result gives the defending EARS Motorsport Irish Navigation Trial Champions three wins from the first three events. On a very wet and muddy night the Impreza crew dropped just 1 minute. Second home were Semi Expert Karl / Frank O'Donoghue (Peugeot 205) on 3 mins. The Dubliners were denied victory when Frank was deemed a minute early at an ITC late in the event, thus being penalised 2 minutes. Two more Semi Expert crews filled the next two places, Kevin Lunt / Eoin Longworth (Golf) were 3rd on 4 mins and left ruing what might have been after they dropped two minutes trying to pass a stranded Ronnie Griffen / Vincent Fagan (Cortina GT) in a narrow lane between TP's 31 and 32. John Willoughby / Nigel Coulter (Peugeot 205) were 4th on 5 minutes. A number of navigators showed just how important concentration is at 4am when no fewer than 3 were penalised 50 minutes for clocking in early. Tadgh O'Shea / Ger Gowen (Nova), Ger Gowen / Diarmuid O'Donovan (Starlet) and Pete Willoughby / Greg Shinnors (Kadett) all fell foul of the mental arithmetic. Next round Munster MC & CC "Reggie Tilson" on 9/10th December.
