MARSHAL INCENTIVE SCHEME CLARIFICATION

Posted: February 7, 2019 5:02 PM

"Dear Marshals,

Following a number of queries in relation to the Motorsport Ireland marshal incentive scheme, please find below the definition of a marshal as agreed for FIA grant funding.

“A marshal is someone who works voluntarily on a Motorsport Ireland permitted event but is not named in the event regulations, safety plan or programme as an official.”

This therefore includes volunteer timekeepers and volunteer communication personnel in the incentive scheme. All those wishing to avail of the scheme must attend the Motorsport Ireland marshals training and apply for a marshal’s licence. The marshal must attend 5 events and ensure they sign on at events. After 5 events the record card should be submitted to the MI office for inclusion in the draw. A new card will then be issued, so the more events you are a marshal at, the more entries you get into the draw!

There will be four prize draws for a trip to an International Motorsport event – up to a maximum of €2,000 for each event. The prize is the TRIP. It is not a cash prize for obvious reasons and it will always only be a recognition of the commitment given by our participating community.

This scheme was enabled by FIA GRANT funding applied for by me, as CEO in myfirst few months in the role, having met and listened to marshals around the country. As with many of the new initiatives across motorsport driven by the President, CEO and Commissions, these are first steps. Part of the importance of growing MI Membership is to drive numbers so we can do commercial deals that will fund additional needed programs across the sport. So the marshals incentive scheme is a first step and has been applauded, but we NEED to increase our MI Membership numbers to let us drive other commercial initiatives to pay for such programmes going forward."

€8,000 in prizes available in new Motorsport Ireland marshal award scheme

Posted: January 28, 2019 3:10 PM

Volunteers are the backbone of motorsport in this country and Motorsport Ireland recognises the invaluable contribution that our marshals make to the smooth running of the sport we all love.

That’s why we’re launching a scheme to reward our marshals and incentivise those considering joining their ranks through a competition giving them the chance to win a trip to an international motorsport event.

Four lucky winners will share a prize fund of €8,000 which can be put towards a trip to an international motorsport event of their choice with an approved travel provider.

All marshals eligible to participate will be put into randomly selected draws which will take place at the July, September and November CAC meetings. One prize will be drawn in July, another in September, and the final two prizes will be awarded in the November draw.

Get involved and start dreaming about which event would you like to attend.

John Naylor, President of Motorsport Ireland, said:
“Motorsport Ireland created the Volunteers & Officials Commission towards the end of 2018 with a specific remit to develop several initiatives that will not only acknowledge the valuable contribution that our volunteers make to the sport but will also reward them for their continued support.

“We are thrilled to be able to announce today the first new scheme specifically designed to acknowledge the incredible work that our marshals do to ensure the smooth running of so many of our events each year. Marshalls are the unsung heroes of our sport and too often they don’t get the appreciation they deserve. Rain or shine they are at their posts ensuring the safety of supporters, media and competitors. We felt that it was about time that they are rewarded for their selfless efforts.”

Robert Lyttle, Chair of the Volunteers & Officials Commission, said:
“We hope that this reward scheme will be welcomed by our long-standing and remarkable group of marshals who have already given years of service to the sport and will also act as an incentive for new volunteers to join their ranks.

“As we continue to grow and make changes that will make motorsport in Ireland more accessible to both competitors and supporters, our marshals will continue to be key to our success. I also want to thank my fellow committee / commission members for their work on this and also recognise the support of international governing body FIA which has made this possible.”

Like every awards scheme there are some terms and conditions that we must put in place in order to maintain the highest standards and make it as fair as possible for everyone to be eligible to be in with a chance of winning this fantastic prize.

In order to avail of the scheme, a marshal must attend an official Motorsport Ireland marshals training course. Upon completion of the course the successful candidates will be asked to fill out an application form which is submitted to it Motorsport Ireland who will issue them a marshal’s licence and an event record card.

This record card is important as it is the official verification document that proves a marshal has volunteered at the required five events for eligibility to be entered into one of the draws. There is no limit to the number of entry’s you can make as you will be issued a new card each time one is completed.

To make sure it is fair on everyone some random checks will be carried out to ensure that the record is true the marshal has signed on.

We thank all our volunteers and wish you the best for the remainder of 2019. Terms and conditions
