Maiden City MC has just announced that it is running its first rally of 2015, a special Stage Rally on the date of the Lark in the Park, 25th April 2015.

Plans for the famous Lark in the Park have had to be shelved for 2015, due to a final and complete refurbishment of the tight and twisty Derry City Waterside course, St. Columb?s Park , as part of ongoing improvements to the Park and new state-of-the-art Leisure Centre/Arena . Club Chairman and Event Director for the 2015 event, Gerry O?Doherty said, ?Following discussions with the current Derry City Council, it was felt best to run the event on the date allocated, and leave out the Park section of the course for 2015. Derry City Council did want the Club to run the event in the Park after the works have been complete, in the summer, but we could not change the date easily in the NI Motorsport calendar without major disruption to the other events being held.? Gerry continued, ?so we increased our mileage after careful negotiations with the Donegal Motor Club, MotorSport Ireland and Motor Sports Association, London, who kindly have allowed us to run almost 10miles of the Donegal International Stage at An Grianan. This stage will run 3 times, with over 30 miles of special stage mileage. It is full International Rally standard. We are really looking forward to making this event special for all involved.?

Gerry concluded by thanking the Department of Culture, Art and Leisure, DCAL's North West Social and Economic Development Programme, for assisting the Club at this time with a grant for the provision of a new safety equipment and training for Club Officials.?We will be able to operate events across the North-West with the safety of the public and Club members, at a higher standard, using new equipment which will be more environmentally friendly and safer to handle than before.?

New for the 2015 event is Clerk of the Course Declan McCay, who brings experience as an ex-Clerk of the Course of the Donegal International Rally and many other rallies. Maiden City Motor Club has a team of highly experienced Officials who are in constant demand for rallies and events throughout NI and ROI, and look forward to bringing a top class stage rally to the North West.
