Wesley and Johnny leaders of the pack - 2014 Ace Signs Imokilly Motor Club Single Stage.

Posted: March 10, 2017 3:28 AM

A very warm day greeted the competitors on the third running of the Ace Signs Imokilly Motor Club Single Stage. The winners Wesley Patterson / Johnny Baird in the 2.5 Escort set the pace from the 1st Stage and held the lead from the start.

On the first stage it was Wesley Patterson who set the pace in the Escort he was the only man to dip under the 10 minute time for the stage, Roy White in the MG slotted into second down 7 seconds already followed by Barry Meade the first ever winner of the IMC Single Stage 3 years ago.

Jason Ryan / Tadhg O Sullivan were in an Incredible 4th in the Honda engined Starlet the local crew thinking they were down on power but setting the stage alight. Fifth was Frank Kelly in the Escort ahead of another local crew on the move Mark Dolphin / Finbarr Quirke; however Mark thought he was too cautious in places and was now 10 seconds behind Jason Ryan, next up was Allen Treacy who complained of tyre pressure problems that was making the car giddy in the corners. The top 10 was rounded of by Stephen McCann in the Evo, Alastair Cochrane in the Escort and Vincent McSweeney in the Honda Civic.

A slight shower between stage one and two made no difference as the road dried quickly Wesley Patterson once again set the pace with a time of 9.48.5, Roy White stepped up his pace with a time of 9.51.5 , Barry Meade did 9.58.9 and Frank Kelly was getting more into it with a 10.06 , The battle for top IMC crew was heating up with Jason Ryan again setting a time of 10.04 and Mark Dolphin had not given up hopes for first IMC club crew home and he did 10.09.6, Stephen McCann, Cochrane, IMC member Allen Treacy and Tom Flaherty rounded out the top ten times for the second run.

So with stage 3 to go it looked like two big battles, one for the rally lead between Wesley Patterson who had 10 seconds on Roy White and the other for top IMC crew home between Jason Ryan who had 15 seconds on Mark Dolphin.

Roy White set a stunning time on stage 3 of 9.43 however it was too little too late and with Wesley Patterson setting a time of 9.47 he emerged as the rally winner by 6 seconds. Barry Meade stayed in third followed by Frank Kelly fourth, fifth was the flying Jason Ryan / Tadhg O' Sullivan First IMC Crew home and absolutely delighted with their great finish , Stephen McCann was sixth in the Evo and Mark Dolphin / Finbarr Quirke made a big attack on the last stage and had a costly spin that lost them about 15 seconds and a place he slipped to 7th , next up was the steady Alastair Cochrane who won class 13, 8th overall ahead of IMC crew Allen Treacy / Bob Fitzgerald 9th overall who set their best time on the last stage .The top 10 was rounded out by Tom Flaherty in his Escort.

This result gives Wesley Patterson's chances in the Plasticbags.ie Southern4 Championship a points boost.

At the finish ramp all the top crews praised the Imokilly Motor Club for running a great event they said the stage was as good as any stage in the country a real driver's stage. The club would like to thank everyone who helped in any way with the running of the event and in particular the residents on the stage and the people of the Cloyne area for supporting the rally.

AceSigns sponsored Imokilly Motor Club Single Stage Launched

Posted: July 8, 2014 8:55 PM

Thursday the 3rd of July saw the press launch of the AceSigns sponsored Imokilly Motor Club Single Stage Rally at Harty’s Bar & Restaurant in Cloyne in east Cork. A great crowd turned out on the night and all the talk was about the third running of the event.

A photo shoot took place outside with some of the Imokilly Motor Club member’s cars and representatives of the sponsors of the event. The event this year is once again a counting round of the Plasticbags.ie Southern 4 Rally Championship.

After the photo-shoot the crowd retired inside to Harty's Bar which is Rally HQ for the weekend where Derek Power Clerk of the Course for the event said he was delighted to welcome aboard AceSigns as Title Sponsor for the 3rd running of the Imokilly Single Stage. Derek said the rally was a big undertaking but he had got huge help from his deputy Finbarr Fogarty and other club members. He also said that sponsors were the lifeblood of any event and not to forget our associate sponsors and support then where ever possible. He thanked the residents along the route and the people of the area for really getting behind the event, Derek also thanked our neighbouring motor clubs who are a huge help on the day in running the event and the local Garda Tom Dwane for his help over the past 3 years, he also said entries are now standing at over 50 with that figure expected to more than double in the next few weeks.

The event is a huge boost to the local economy with over 120 officials required alone just to run the event , taking into account the competitors, service crews, friends and family the rally probably brings about 700 people to the area for the weekend not counting spectators.

This year’s stage is a test of both man and machine and has technical parts and fast open terrain in other places. Following a reconnaissance run in the morning, there will be 3 timed runs with the first stage starting at 12 o clock , Stage 2 at 2pm and Stage 3 at 4pm. The first competing cars will arrive back to the finish ramp at Harty's Bar at 5pm with prizegiving and after rally party taking place in Harty's later that evening.

Safety is paramount on this event and you must obey the marshals at all times when spectating at the event. Think safety and when driving on the road use care and courtesy at all times and Keep The Race in its Place.

The stage this year is of a more technical nature then was used by the club over the past few years, in other words they will be a bit of driving in it. This event is also a round of the Plastic Bags Southern 4 Rally Championship.

Clerk of the Course Derek Power said
“After a year out last year, I’m delighted to be back on board as C.O.C. this year. We have put a lot of work already into this year’s event and plans are well advanced at this stage. We are delighted with the welcome the rally has received in the Cloyne area, from the local business, the residents of the stage and the local authorities who have all made us feel very welcome. I would like to thank all our sponsors and in particular Bryan Allen of Great Stuff Caterers, without whom it would be impossible for us to run this event”
