MSA opens online licence applications

Posted: December 12, 2008 4:15 PM

he Motor Sports Association's online licensing facility opened for business at the start of December at www.msauk.org, offering nearly three quarters of all competitors the chance to speed up their licence application.

The MSA has announced that 2009 licence applications made online will be despatched in less than ten days, reducing by a third the turnaround time in comparison to standard postal applications. As many as 70% of MSA competition licences will be available for online application.

The 2009 licensing period has already started promisingly. Thanks to a new format application form and clear guidance notes to aid competitors, telephone calls to the licensing department have fallen by half in comparison to last year.

The MSA's ongoing investment in technology and resources has also made the service more efficient. 99.8% of calls offered to the licensing department have been answered, with an average queue time of 15 seconds; this represents a huge improvement on 2008 which saw an average queue time of nearly four minutes.

"Early indications are that we will make another significant improvement this year," confirms Colin Hilton, MSA Chief Executive, "People are increasingly comfortable with undertaking this type of transaction online and because it is a much more efficient method of working with the data, the licensing department is able to turn them around much quicker. It's better for all parties."

"The more applications we can get online, the more it frees up our staff to handle the calls and enquiries from other people," says Steve Redhead, MSA Licensing Manager. "However, although we are turning applications round more quickly, I would urge people not to leave their application until the last minute and to make sure that they fill in all the forms correctly. The vast majority of delays are caused by incorrectly filled in application forms."

For first-time applicants, those licence applications that are appropriate for online completion are: Non-race Clubman; Non-race National B; Kart Clubman; Rally National A Navigator.

For those renewing their 2008 licences, online applicants must be applying for exactly the same type of licence as was held in 2008, must not be under 18 years of age, nor require any of the following to accompany their application: Stress-related ECG; Medical report; Foreign Authorisation. They must also not be applying for an international licence that requires proof of competing in 2008.

The online application facility is now available and the online tracking system that was successfully introduced in 2007 will continue as normal for all applications.
