SCOTTISH DRIVERS TARGET IRC ENTRY INCENTIVE

Posted: March 2, 2009 3:17 PM

The top three in the final Scottish Rally Championship Group N standings will receive free entries for the RAC MSA Rally of Scotland, which brings the curtain down on the Intercontinental Rally Challenge on November 19-21.

Contested over eight events, the Scottish championship has nurtured several rallying talents, including the late Colin McRae and his brother Alister, who won the IRC’s pilot event in South Africa in May 2006.

After the opening round of the Scottish championship season, the Snowman Rally on February 14, Jock Armstrong, David Bogie and Rory Young occupy the top three positions in the Group N classification.
Bogie, who drives a Mitsubishi Lancer E9, is regarded as one of Scotland’s most promising rally talents. The 21-year-old will combine a season competing in the Scottish series with a campaign in the British championship. Based on his performances during his career so far, Bogie could be an outside contender for IRC points if he secures an entry for Rally of Scotland.

Organisers of the Hankook MSA Scottish Rally Championship have announced that they will be offering discounted entry fees to Irish and overseas competitors on all forest rounds in 2009.

The discount will represent a minimum of 20% off the basic entry fee and will be open to anyone whose vehicle has to travel on a ferry to the Scottish mainland.

This exclusive offer is only one of a raft of initiatives unveiled by the SRC for the 2009 series, which combine to represent a record total prizefund for the year in excess of £30,000.

One of the most exciting introductions is an expanded Junior training programme culminating in the selection of one of the Juniors to receive the opportunity of a fully funded drive in a competitive car on a European or Far East event.

There is also fully-supported GpN package with the winner earning free entry to all rounds of the 2010 SRC and the top 3 in this series also receiving free entries into the IRC ŒRally of Scotland‚ in November 2009.

In 2008, the championship enjoyed one of its best ever years, with record entries and more than 200 registered competitors.

The new season starts with the ever-popular Arnold Clark/Thistle Hotels Snowman Rally on February 14th.

The other forest rounds are the Brick & Steel Border Counties Rally (March 21st); Station Garage Mitsubishi Granite City Rally (April 25th); RSAC Scottish Rally (June 27th); Gleaner Oil & Gas Speyside Stages (August 8th); Merrick Forest Stages (September 5th); and Colin McRae Forest Stages (October 3rd)

The only tarmac round is the Jim Clark Reivers Rally on May 24th.

SCOTTISH RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP SECURES GLOBAL SPONSOR

Posted: December 3, 2008 5:37 PM

The MSA Scottish Rally Championship has announced that tyre giant Hankook is to sponsor the 2009 series.

The new deal follows the ending of five years of successful sponsorship by the County Saab motor group.

Hankook's involvement will include a fully-supported Group N Championship with incentives for registered competitors.

There will also be an expanded Junior training programme, which will include a fully-funded prize drive on a European or Far East event.

The successful young driver will receive pre-event driving tuition from a top driver with international experience.

Announcing the new deal in Glasgow, SRC chaiman Campbell Roy said: "We are delighted to have concluded this groundbreaking deal with such a high-profile international company"

He went on: "Hankook brings a wealth of motorsport experience to the SRC and will undoubtedly assist us in further raising the profile of the sport in Scotland".

Hankook's involvement in the UK rally scene has included success with the SJR Hankook Rally Team, and the long-term support of top drivers - both in the UK and overseas.

Motosport manager Mike Patterson said: "We are delighted to be focussing our attention in 2009 on the Scottish Rally Championship - a series which attracts some intense competition".

Mr Patterson added: "Support of motorsport at all levels is at the heart of Hankook's plans, and in particular, the high profile prize for the Juniors is testament to this commitment".

Leading competitor Mike Faulkner - who finished runner-up to Jimmy Girvan in this year's Scottish championship - believed the involvement of Hankook would take the series to "a whole new level".

The Championship will be called "The Hankook MSA Scottish Rally Championship".
