Round 8 - 2004 IRISH TARMAC RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
Round 4 - 023 TILES SOUTHERN FOUR RALLY CHAMPIONSHIP
Rounds 6 & 7 - 2004 Ford Ka Championship

Early on Monday morning, the results of the Murphy Construction Cork 20 International Rally were changed by the Stewards of the Meeting, who declared that in a situation of force majeure, the rally was deemed to have finished before the final stage at Ballinvuskig, near Mallow. This left Eugene Donnelly and Paul Kiely in their Corolla as the winners, nine seconds ahead of the Impreza of Derek McGarrity and Dermot O’Gorman.

This decision followed a dramatic incident on that last stage which saw Donnelly crash out of the rally while leading, when he found rocks and a piece of timber on his line at the exit from a high speed bend and was unable to avoid them, with his car being badly damaged and unable to continue.

McGarrity was first car through the stage, and didn’t have any problem, but there was a three minute delay before Donnelly was started, and during that time, it appeared that the obstruction was put in place. The organisers, Munster Car Club, Motorsport Ireland and the Gardai each began investigations into the incident on Sunday evening.

Belfastman McGarrity and Donnelly, from Maghera, started the rally tied for the lead of the Pirelli Irish Tarmac Championship, with whichever of them beat the other due to take the honours, but under the unprecedented circumstances, they agreed that they should jointly share the title for this year.
